I know where the phrase just Joshin ya came from. When I was in high school there was a guy named Josh Hiller who had a great personality. He played a lot of pranks and joked around a lot. Everyone could always count on him to lighten the mood. One day someone else, I don’t remember exactly who, was pulling someone else’s leg so to speak and they asked if the other guy was serious about what he had said. It was said that, and I quote “no he is just joshin ya”. When asked what that meant it was said that, and I quote “you know how Josh does, and he is doing just like Josh does, so he’s just Joshin. Everyone got a kick out of it and we started using the phrase all the time. It was amazing to see how quick that phrase spread around town. That town is Pensacola, FL by the way. I was looking something up in the dictionary and came accross it. I didn’t realize it had made it that far, so then I decided to look on the internet and see what it might say. That’s how I landed on this site. That happened inbetween 1992-1994. We were in 11th or 12th grade. The name Josh or Joshua actually means God saves. So the term just Joshin ya actually does the original meaning of the name justice. By saying I’m just Joshin ya saves someone from believing something that is not true. I honestly didn’t realize that last part until I started thinking about it while typing just now. I guarantee you won’t find the phrase used any place before the time frame I mentioned above. I’m not Joshin ya by the way. That’s exactly where the phrase originated from. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
